What You’ll Need for Your Mugnut

- 2 tablespoons (1oz/30g) Butter (unsalted works best)
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or substitute with gluten-free flour if needed)
- 1 Egg yolk (save the white for another recipe!)
- 2 tablespoons sugar (granulated or caster sugar works fine)
- 1 tablespoon milk (any type of milk will do)
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (add more for extra spice!)
- 1 tablespoon Strawberry jam (or any jam of your choice)
- Cinnamon sugar (for garnish, optional but delicious)
How to Make Your Microwave Jelly Donut in a Mug
- Melt the butter: Place the butter in a microwavable mug and microwave for about 20 seconds, or until just melted.
- Mix the batter: Add the flour, egg yolk, sugar, milk, baking powder, and cinnamon to the mug. Stir well with a fork until just combined.
- Add the jam: Spoon the strawberry jam into the center of the batter, pressing it down slightly to create a jammy center.
- Microwave: Cook in the microwave for 45 seconds (based on a 1200W microwave). Keep an eye on it to prevent overflowing or overcooking. The top should be firm when done.
- Garnish and enjoy: Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top and enjoy your Mugnut straight away while it’s warm!
Jam It Up: Sauce and Topping Ideas
While strawberry jam is a classic choice, feel free to experiment with other flavors like raspberry, blueberry, or even lemon curd for a tangy twist. For an extra indulgent touch, drizzle melted chocolate or caramel sauce over the top. A dollop of whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar can also elevate your Mugnut to dessert perfection.
Quick and Easy Serving Suggestions
Enjoy your Mugnut straight from the mug for a cozy, no-fuss treat. Pair it with a cup of coffee or tea for a delightful snack. If you’re feeling fancy, serve it on a plate with a side of fresh berries or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a mini dessert experience.
Microwave Mastery: Equipment Guidance
Use a standard-sized microwavable mug to ensure even cooking and prevent overflow. A fork works well for mixing, but a small whisk can help achieve a smoother batter. Keep a close eye on the microwave, as cooking times may vary depending on your microwave’s wattage. If you’re unsure, start with 30 seconds and add more time as needed.
Mix It Up: Recipe Variations
For a chocolatey version, swap out the jam for a tablespoon of Nutella or chocolate chips. If you’re a fan of spices, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the batter. You can also try using almond or oat milk for a dairy-free alternative. The possibilities are endless, so get creative and make it your own!
Fresh and Fast: Storage and Reheating
Mugnuts are best enjoyed fresh, but if you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a day. To reheat, microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm it through. Be careful not to overheat, as it can dry out the donut. For the best experience, savor it right after making!
