What You’ll Need

What You'll Need
  • 2 tablespoons (1 oz/30g) butter (unsalted works best)
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (creamy or crunchy, your choice)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (any type: dairy, almond, oat, etc.)
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or substitute with gluten-free flour if needed)
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder (ensure it’s fresh for best results)
  • 1 tablespoon strawberry jam (or any jam or jelly you prefer)

How to Make It

  1. Melt the butter: Place the butter in a microwave-safe mug and heat for about 20 seconds, or until just melted.
  2. Mix the batter: Add the peanut butter, milk, flour, and baking powder to the mug. Stir well with a fork until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  3. Add the jam: Spoon the strawberry jam into the center of the batter, pressing it down slightly for a gooey middle.
  4. Microwave: Cook in the microwave for 45 seconds to 1 minute, or until the top is firm. Tip: Cooking times may vary based on your microwave’s wattage, so keep an eye on it to prevent overflow or overcooking.
  5. Serve: Let it cool for a minute or enjoy it warm straight from the mug!

Creative Toppings and Swaps

Take your mug PB&J to the next level with fun toppings like a drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of crushed nuts, or a dollop of whipped cream. Swap the strawberry jam for raspberry, blueberry, or even chocolate spread for a twist. Feeling adventurous? Add a pinch of cinnamon or a few chocolate chips to the batter for extra flavor!

Perfect Pairings for Your Mug Treat

Enjoy your Microwave Mug Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich with a glass of cold milk or a cup of coffee for a cozy snack. For a mini dessert spread, pair it with fresh fruit like banana slices or a handful of berries. It’s the ultimate quick indulgence!

Quick Tips for Microwave Success

To avoid overflow, use a larger mug and stop the microwave halfway to check the consistency. If your microwave is less powerful, add 10-15 seconds to the cooking time. Pro tip: Let it cool for a minute before digging in to avoid burning your tongue!

Easy Storage and Reheating

If you have leftovers (unlikely!), store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a day. Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to enjoy it warm again. Fresh is best, though, so make it on the spot whenever possible!
