Ingredients for Pecan Pie Egg Rolls

Ingredients for Pecan Pie Egg Rolls
  • 1 ½ tablespoons (41g/1½ oz) butter, melted
  • ⅔ cups (85g/3 ¼ oz) brown sugar (packed for best results)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or substitute with honey)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1⅓ cup (120g / 4oz) pecans, toasted and finely chopped (toasting enhances flavor)
  • 12 Egg Roll Wrappers
  • 1 egg, scrambled (for egg wash)
  • Cinnamon sugar (for sprinkling)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, salt, egg, and chopped pecans until well combined. Place the mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to cool and thicken slightly.
  2. Assemble the egg rolls: Remove the filling from the fridge and give it a quick stir. Scoop two heaping tablespoons of the filling onto the center of an egg roll wrapper. Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly to secure. Use a dab of water to seal the edges if needed (the filling can be runny).
  3. Prepare for baking: Place the assembled egg rolls on a baking sheet. Brush each roll with the scrambled egg wash and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar.
  4. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the egg rolls for 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Let the egg rolls cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm for the best flavor!

Sweet & Savory Sauce Pairings

Elevate your Pecan Pie Egg Rolls with a drizzle of caramel sauce or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence. For a tangy twist, try a side of vanilla ice cream or a light dusting of powdered sugar. These sauces and toppings add a delightful contrast to the rich, nutty filling.

Perfect Serving Suggestions

Serve these egg rolls warm as a dessert centerpiece at your next gathering or as a sweet treat after dinner. Pair them with a cup of hot coffee or spiced chai tea for a cozy, comforting experience. They’re also great for sharing at parties—just slice them into bite-sized pieces for easy snacking!

Storage & Reheating Tips

Store leftover egg rolls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes or until warmed through. Avoid microwaving to keep the wrappers crisp. For longer storage, freeze them on a baking sheet before transferring to a freezer-safe bag for up to 1 month.

Creative Recipe Variations

Switch up the filling by adding chocolate chips or swapping pecans for walnuts. For a lighter version, use phyllo dough instead of egg roll wrappers. You can also experiment with spices like nutmeg or cardamom to give the filling a unique flavor profile. Get creative and make it your own!

Time-Saving Hacks

To speed up prep, use pre-chopped pecans and store-bought egg roll wrappers. Mix the filling the night before and refrigerate it—this not only saves time but also allows the flavors to meld. If you’re short on time, skip the egg wash and simply brush the rolls with melted butter before baking.
